Bakery Recalls Vanilla Cream Puffs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - March 31, 2012 – HUDSONVILLE, MI, Creme Curls Bakery, Inc. initiated an immediate nationwide recall of 19.4 ounce cartons of Simply Enjoy Vanilla cream puffs distributed by Foodhold U.S.A.,LLC and 13.2 ounce cartons of Vanilla Cream Puffs distributed by Crème Curls Bakery, because the product contains sodium caseinate which is listed on the label, but does not identify the source of sodium caseinate as milk. People who have milk allergies that do not recognize sodium caseinate as a milk derivative run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the product.

The affected products were distributed nationwide through retail grocery stores.

The affected product, packaged in glossy paperboard cartons, can be identified by the photographs below. The Vanilla Cream Puffs are sold in the freezer section of grocery stores and are packaged in one of the following cartons:

Simply Enjoy Vanilla Cream Puffs, UPC Code #6-88267-12409-9, located on large back panel
Creme Curls Bakery, UPC Code #0-70109-60055-5 , located on large back panel
The recall was initiated due to a report of an allergic reaction after a person with a milk allergy consumed the product. This recall applies to all sell by dates and all lot codes. No other Crème Curls products are affected by this recall.

“We are working closely with the Food and Drug Administration and are taking every step possible to ensure that any product that has not yet been consumed is removed from store shelves as quickly as possible,” said Paul Bierling, Executive Vice President.

Consumers in possession of affected product who have a milk allergy are encouraged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. This product is safe for consumption by individuals who do not suffer from a milk allergy.

Recall...Foreign Materials in Sausage


Texas Firm Recalls Chicken Sausage Products Nationwide That May Contain Foreign Materials


WASHINGTON, Mar 31, 2012 - Eddy Packing Co., Inc., a Yoakum, Texas, establishment is recalling approximately 26,136 pounds of chicken apple sausage products that may contain foreign materials, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The products subject to recall include:

1-lb. vacuum-sealed, 3 to a pack of “ARTISAN FRESH, ALL NATURAL chicken & apple sausage” bearing the USDA mark of inspection and have a sell-by date of June 23, 2012.
36-lb. cases containing 12/3-lb. packages of “ARTISAN FRESH, ALL NATURAL CHICKEN APPLE SAUSAGE” bearing the establishment number “P-4800” inside the USDA mark of inspection and bearing codes 42450 or P13203 on the label.
The problem was discovered as a result of consumer complaints about finding pieces of plastic in the product. FSIS and the company have received no reports of injury or illness at this time. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness from consumption of these products should contact a healthcare provider.

The products subject to recall were produced Feb. 9, 2012, and were distributed nationally through a warehouse chain on Feb. 14, 2012.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

SOUTH FLORIDA PRODUCE RECALLING JALAPENO PEPPERS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - March 27, 2012 – South Florida Produce, LLC is recalling Jalapeno Peppers.

South Florida Produce, LLC is recalling Jalapeno Peppers, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The recalled Jalapeno Peppers were distributed to Distributors in Oxford, NC, Lake Worth, FL, Washington, DC, Pompano Beach, FL, Fair Lawn, NJ, Toronto, Ontario, Canada via customer truck between March 5 through March 7, 2012.

The product comes in bulk 1 1/9 bushel cartons marked with the lot #’s J000010995, J000010996, J000010997, J000010998, J000010999, J000011000, J000020135, J000020136, J000020137, J000020138, J000020139 and J000030053. These lots #’s appear on the pallet labels located on the front and back of each pallet.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The potential for contamination was noted during a routine testing by a retail store which revealed the possible presence of Salmonella in packs of 2, 10 and 40 count packages.

Customers that have inventory with the above lot numbers are urged to destroy the product and contact Leslie DiStefano, Director of Sales & Food Safety at 954-459-0106 to verify receipt of this recall and destruction of the product.

WASHINGTON, Mar 29, 2012 - Mosul Kubba, a Chicago, Ill. establishment, is recalling approximately 1,100 pounds of stuffed, layered beef products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The fully cooked, ready-to-eat, halal beef products were produced on March 20, 2012, and then shipped to a single distributor in Detroit, Mich. The following products are subject to recall:

2-lb. vacuum-packed packages containing two, 10-inch pieces of “KUBBA OF WHEAT.”
20-lb. cases, each containing 10, 2-lb. packages of “KUBBA OF WHEAT."

Case labels or packaging may bear the case code 12082 as well as establishment number “EST. 21576” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Club Chef LLC recalling Salsa Products in 11 States

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - March 27, 2012 Club Chef LLC is recalling its 12 oz., 16 oz. and 5 lb. Salsa products because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The product is sold in 12 oz. (Private Selection brand name) and 16 oz. (heinen’s brand name) clear plastic packages and 5 lb. plastic trays (foodservice distributors) marked with Use by Date of 3/27/2012. UPC numbers located on the packages are as follows:

The identified product was distributed to retailers and foodservice distributors on 3/14/12 and 3/15/12 within eleven states: Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana and Illinois.

While there have been no illnesses reported to date in connection with this problem, Club Chef is collaborating closely with the FDA and adhering to all safety regulations and standards.

The potential for contamination was noted after a random test by the Ohio Department of Agriculture in a store in Ohio which revealed the presence of Salmonella in a case of Jalapeno peppers. Jalapeno peppers are one of the ingredients in the Salsa.

WASHINGTON, Mar 26, 2012 - J Bar B Foods, a Waelder, Texas establishment, is recalling approximately 64,020 pounds of a smoked sausage product because it contains whey and casein, known allergens that are not declared on the label, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The following products are subject to recall:

11-pound boxes of “Eckrich Smoked Sausage Made with Pork and Beef” with a sell by date of March 26, 2012 or later.
Each box bears a label with the establishment number “Est. 7066” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were produced from Jan. 16, 2012 to the present and were sent to distribution centers in Dallas, Texas and Indianapolis, Ind. for institutional use.

WASHINGTON, March 19, 2012 - Lawson Foods LLC, an Irvington, N.J., establishment, is recalling approximately 84,587 pounds of pork product, as it includes pork product imported from Canada that was not properly presented for re-inspection upon entry into the United States, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The following product is subject to recall:

Various weight cases of "PORK SHOULDER BUTTS," with an identifying case code of "30312."

The product subject to recall bears the establishment number "EST. 34227" inside the USDA mark of inspection. This product was produced on March 3, 2012, and was distributed to one wholesale firm in New Jersey.
